11. “The
Heron” Confidence Decoy by Sonja Maloney |
This life-size and life-like
Heron is commonly called a “confidence decoy,” which
is why it has a stick instead of legs; it is carved out of natural, local,
birch and mounted on a wooden burl. The artist is Sonja
Maloney who has been woodcarving
for nine of the 15 years she has resided at Priest Lake, and enjoys an impressive
regional reputation; her commissions grace many local homes. She is active
in many local community activities and takes pleasure in
the outdoors, her gardening,
and of course her woodcarving. Her wood creations are rustic and natural in
appearance, made with many different hand tools, and hand
painted when color is necessary.
Donated by: Sonja Maloney
Value: $450
